LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Thursday confirmed that as many as 23,000 personnel of the police force were suffering from serious illnesses.
These figures, he said, were revealed during last month’s screenings and medical tests in which it was disclosed that extensive working hours, lack of rest and mental pressure were the main reasons for 23,000 personnel of the Punjab police falling prey to serious diseases.
As per the figures, 5,001 police personnel were patients of blood sugar diseases, 7,013 were suffering from Hepatitis B, and more than 3,000 from Hepatitis C, he added.
14,040 personnel were patients of various heart diseases and more than 1100 patients were suffering from stomach related disorders.
IG Punjab also confirmed that 23,000 police personnel were victims of various serious diseases and said that those suffering from the diseases were being provided with monetary aid from the Police Welfare Fund for treatment.
